Superheroes Walk Among Us

Remembering

Finally, time permitting I went  to see the film “The Avengers.” The title reminded me of  the British television show with  Diana Rigg (Mrs. Peel) and Patrick MaNee (John Steed) from the 1960s.   Always a lot of fun but not quite as colorful or awe inspiring as the current version in theatres featuring the Marvel Comic characters, Iron Man (Robert Downey), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) , Thor (Chris Hemsworth) , and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).  The plot goes something like this:  Loki (adopted half brother of Thor) has formed a scheme with some other spacevillian types to destroy the Earth.    Nick Fury (Samuel L.  Jackson)  concocts a scheme to revive S.H.I. E.L.D, a sort of  space terrorist fighting organization with the reluctant heroes who  have been living on earth doing their routine – for  some extraordinairy –  routines.   In the film they come together and  save the world (or at least New York City) from destruction.  There…

In Search of Kindness

Azeena's avatarCats & All That ™

It’s been several months since Koko, a domestic shorthair,  decided to take off from CCL’s house for parts unknown.   I still think of her and her kindness and affection.  (so much for cats not being affectionate).

Now CCL has Grace, a tabby, a foster that we are both considering for adoption.  It is clear that Grace was once abused tortured and overfed.  She has because of the kindness of CCL become affectionate, playful and healthy.  Kindness heals.  I like to think that Koko is spreading her special brand of it to another family.

You Never Know Who Your Angels Are

Worth resharing because it holds true for all time.

(This post was originally published in August 2014. I was struck however by the flower shop employee who helped aid in the capture of the Charleston massacre. - Azeena

A few weeks ago CCL was taking out the trash and Jean Claude, the black Bombay decided to go out for a bag of potato chips ( or whatever). We tried to find him, posted signs, queried neighbors etc. Now,CCL’s house is sandwiched between two others neighbors -Cathy and Joe who have a new patio – and Mildred who often leaves food for stray cats. I was convinced Mildred was holding Jean Claude hostage and urged CCL to take action. After about a week, CCL went out-of-town and I decided to stop by her house. Mildred, the accused cat hostage taker was working in her yard. I introduced myself and asked if she had seen Jean Claude. “No” she replied quietly…

Age is Just A Number

Recently The New York Times featured a story about powerful women.  All the women over 60.

It is important to remember that age is just a number.

Yes, You Should Read This Book

Tony Robbins * Simon & Schuster * February 28, 2017 * 256 Pages I wasn’t very familiar with Tony Robbins until I watched a documentary about him on Netflix called I Am Not Your Guru. Yowza, that thing is crazy! I went from seeing Robbins as slightly weird and cheesy to […]

The Perils of Being Too Busy

#Time is your most valuable asset.

Time is the one resource that equalizes everyone. No matter how much money or power you have, you get the same 24 hours a day that everyone else gets. Now you might be able to allocate resources to accomplish tasks for you, but those resources are trading in their time.

I recently created a dream board full of ideas and items I want to accomplish in my life time. Some are short-term, e.g. finish a book this week, and some are long-term (buy an apartment in Paris!). But one of the lessons that I have learned recently is to make time for your dreams. We all waste time. I saw a post that captured this perfectly.

In this case, it’s the trade-off between working out and playing Candy Crush (or in my case – Simpsons Tapped Out). I realized that I don’t want my life to be measured in increments…
